Many Spencer businesses to receive funds to replace items after flooding

SPENCER, Iowa (KCAU) – The Spencer Economic Development Corporation created a grant for businesses impacted by last year’s flooding.

The Commercial Business Assistance Grant could provide anywhere from $1,000 to $25,000 for local businesses. The grant funds can be used for replacing inventory, equipment, and other necessities, though it doesn’t cover structural damage.

The Spencer Economic Development Corporation says over a hundred businesses were impacted by the flooding.

“We wanted to support the businesses that chose to reopen and stay in Spencer,” vice president Jason Warren said. “So for us, it was meaningful again to show that line of hope that we’re bouncing back and that there’s support here in the community for those businesses.”

Currently, applications for the grant are closed. The Spencer Economic Development Corporation received 84 applications, and officials are currently reviewing them.
